Cost and Revenue Simulation for Real-time Action

  • GlobeGround Berlin is the largest service provider operating in Berlin's airports.
  • 1,800 employees
  • Certified to ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 quality standards

Project duration

  • Apr 2004 - Jun 2004

Services provided by Lufthansa Consulting

  • Analysis of cost and revenue structure of five business units
  • Identification of cost and revenue drivers on products and processes
  • Evaluation of determinants, derivation of trends and early warning indicators
  • Definition of cost and aggregation levels for the annual result and business planning simulation
  • Development of a simulation model including the requirement specification for interfaces for data retrieval (airline schedules, OAG data, resource allocation, cost and revenue, human resources, contracting)
  • Simulation concept including design of algorithms and definition of parameters for simulation

Project description

The market environment for the customers of GlobeGround Berlin has become increasingly volatile and the pressure is being felt strongly in Berlin. Airlines put enormous pressure on prices and re-negotiations of contracts, whilst at the same time they require individualized and highly differentiated services.  Furthermore airlines optimize their yields by adapting equipment and frequency to demand. The result is real time equipment changes, cancellations, changes in frequency or the cancellation of services.

GlobeGround Berlin has already introduced SAP and GroundStar (Inform) to guarantee highly sophisticated cost, revenue and resource allocation, but neither tools assist GlobeGround Berlin in anticipating future scenarios, trends and the impact of changes on the result. To be able to simulate the impact on cost and revenue by taking into account ground handling specific determinants, cost and revenue drivers are identified and their impact evaluated.
Lufthansa Consulting is providing GlobeGround Berlin with a simulation concept and in a next stage with the design and implementation of the application.
