Airlines are well-advised to prepare for tracking, reporting and verifying CO2 emissions as early as possible

The airline industry business publication ATW invited Lufthansa Consulting (LCG) to take part in its Eco-Aviation Conference in Washington at the end of June. LCG’s Executive Vice President and Partner Thilo Schmid participated in one of the high-level panel sessions on the subject of EU ETS with a presentation and shared his views and thoughts in the subsequent discussion. The conference was the first and until now the only conference in North America devoted to addressing a broad cross section of topics arising from the impact of commercial aviation on the environment.

Thilo Schmid said that preparing for aviation’s inclusion in the ETS in 2012 is proving to be a “real challenge” for some airlines. He noted that while many carriers have accepted the ETS, some are hoping “it will go away” and may not be ready in 2012. He encouraged airlines to prepare for tracking, reporting and verifying CO2 emissions as early as possible (Source: atwonline.com).

Lufthansa Consulting has developed profound knowledge of the new EU ETS regulations and provides expert services. The consultants assist airlines in the implementation of their monitoring plans and cooperate with potential verifiers and the competent authorities in the various administering member states. In cooperation with their partner First Climate, Lufthansa Consulting furthermore offers support for emissions certificate trading and risk management.
