Russian airline identifies network growth opportunities

Starting in July, Lufthansa Consulting and UTair revived their long-standing relationship and took it to the next level in a deal to identify new network growth opportunities for the Russian carrier. In the strategic project, which is due to be completed in September, the potential of UTair entering and developing new markets is being evaluated.

Even in difficult times, new opportunities still exist. Defining and assessing them is the main objective of this project. Besides the classical Market Potential Analysis (MPA), hub optimization will also be part of the scope of work. The final goal is to improve UTair’s network coverage, create synergies and offer the best and most convenient product to its passengers.

Lufthansa Consulting and UTair have enjoyed a successful cooperation over several years. During recent projects Lufthansa Consulting was contracted to assess and evaluate the revenue management environment and optimize the airline’s network.

UTair is ranked amongst the top five Russian airlines in terms of passenger transportation and serves various destinations in Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Europe and Asia. The carrier is building up a fleet of western aircraft, including several ATRs, to replace its ageing Russian aircraft. UTair’s aggressive growth strategy through network and fleet expansion has been supported by a close collaboration between the airline and Lufthansa Consulting.
