For most airlines, the deadline for submitting the mandatory monitoring plans to their designated competent authority already expired on August 31st, 2009. Some European Competent Authorities for the European Emissions Trading Scheme have now published new final deadlines to deliver the plans regarding the new ETS regulations (Germany: 20th October – Italy: 30th September – Sweden: Mid-October – U. K.: 12th November).

As a result, carriers are advised to hand in all necessary documentation by the target dates mentioned above in order to benefit from the free allocation of emissions trading rights. The new deadlines only grant a short period of a few weeks to get the airlines ready for ETS. The process is complex to prepare the relevant documents and to plan the necessary changes in order to comply.
