Air Cargo market development study for Canada’s Windsor International AirportThe Board and Executive Team of Windsor International Airport in Ontario/Canada (YQG) commissioned Lufthansa Consulting to provide an air cargo market potential analysis and forecast study as a reliable basis for possible investments by exploring the airport’s perspectives in terms of airfreight operations.
Windsor International Airport is located just minutes form Detroit in Michigan/U.S.A. in the heart of North America’s key business and industrial markets. Considerable quantities of air cargo are generated in its catchment area, mainly by the automotive and agricultural sectors. YQG is characterized by excellent accessibility and provides ample space for development and intermodal trans-shipments, but currently lacks state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities to process and handle air cargo.
The challenge, therefore, is to identify the air cargo market potential of Windsor International Airport in the short, medium and long term as the basis to develop suitable, economically viable air cargo facilities and competitive, time-definite air cargo services in line with the market requirements. Owing to the importance of the agribusiness for the economy of Essex County, the potential for YQG as a trans-shipment point for perishable cargo will be given special attention.
The study is expected to be completed by end of June 2009. Thereafter, the Airport’s Management Board will review the findings and decide whether to proceed with developing the infrastructure and facilities for air cargo. Lufthansa Consulting also has the expertise to provide the services which would be required for the subsequent phases of the project, i.e. conceptual planning and financial viability analysis as well as detailed design and implementation management. |
